The study used state-government data to compare hospitals in terms of complication rates for vaginal and C-section deliveries as well neonatal mortality.

Despite Tough Fundraising Year, Stripes Convenient Stores Raise $17,877.76 for Children's Miracle Network at Medical Center Hosptial

Stripes convenience stores raised a total of $456,000 for children's hospitals during its fundraising campaign March 8 - April 4 in all 521 stores across Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. A total of $17,877.76 will benefit Medical Center Hospital the Children's Miracle Network Hospital serving 19 counties in the West Texas region.

Stripes asked customers to purchase a $1 Miracle Balloon icon to raise funds for Children's Miracle Network, a children's charity that raises funds for more than 170 pediatric hospitals.

MCH approves $41.9M Center for Women and Infants

The Ector County Hospital District approved a $41.9 million Center for Women and Infants project at their regular monthly meeting Tuesday, in addition to swearing in three board members. 

The project will be funded primarily through bonds, and the board approved the sale of $54 million in bonds. Medical Center Hospital CEO Bill Webster said the bonds will fund most of the project, with regular budgeted funding paying for some of the equipment. Despite the increased debt load, annual bond payments will increase by $35,000 due to a use of federal stimulus Build America Bonds. 

Directors voted unanimously to approve the financing and contract for construction with Hardin Construction. Hardin offered a guaranteed maximum price of $28.5 million.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Receives $30,000 Donation for the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile

Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Southwest, Inc. is pleased to announce a $30,000 donation from the Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation in support of the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile in the Permian Basin.

The gift will support the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile, which serves children in the Permian Basin area who would otherwise not have access to adequate health care. The Care Mobile is a partnership between Ronald McDonald House Charities and Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

MCH USES ABIOMED IMPELLA® HEART RECOVERY DEVICE FOR MINIMALLY INVASIVE CARDIAC PROCEDURES

Medical Center Hospital physicians can now add the world's smallest heart pump to their portfolio of treatment options to assist critically ill patients that are experiencing advanced cardiac failure or shock in recovering from heart attack or other insult/injury.

In June 2008, the Impella 2.5 catheter-based heart pump received 510(k) clearance by the Food and Drug Administration. As the smallest heart pump on the market, Impella 2.5 works by temporarily relieving the heart's pumping function and providing the time needed to initiate life-saving interventions.

Children's Miracle Network to Partner with Schwan's Home Service for Fundraiser on May 1st

Children's miracle network will partner with Schwan's Home Service for a parking lot sale fundraiser in Odessa and Midland on Saturday May1, 2010 from 11am to 5pm. 10% of the sales proceeds will go to Children's Miracle Network to help support the young patients in the Pediatric and NICU units at Medical Center Hospital Stop by and buy your favorite frozen foods from the Schwans "Yellow Truck" at the following locations:

MCH Childbirth Class Reunion - April 17th

If you have attended Childbirth Classes at MCH in 2009 or 2010, then you are invited to the MCH Childbirth Class Reunion on Saturday, April 17th from 1pm-3pm in the MCH Boardroom. MCH TO HOST PRESENTATION ON SURGICAL TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM


MCH will be hosting a presentation on the Surgical Technology program through the partnership of Medical Center Hospital, Odessa College and Howard College on Thursday, April 8, 2010 from 6:00pm - 7:30pm in the MCH Board Room. This public information gathering will be beneficial to individuals interested in the Surgical Technology field.
